Ding-dong! The door bell rang followed by the sound of giggles and the fast pattering of footsteps. As I made it to the door, I saw a basket. Overflowing with delicious goodies! My friend, already at the car, caught a glimpse of my overly excited response to this wonderful gift!

May Day. The fabulous baskets come once a year. Created to celebrate the first of May and the thrilling anticipation of beauty blooming, just around the corner!

Why is it we only celebrate such beauty once a year? Don’t get me wrong, I love any chance to create a goodie basket for someone special, but what about the gift that never stops giving? And is even more satisfying than a basket of sweets?

God’s Word.

Packed full of blooming beauty, promises that are yet to come! But also available right NOW! ‘God’s Word is alive and active’ (Hebrews 4:12) and He is waiting for You to come alive in Him!

Holidays are a wonderful way to celebrate, even the simplest ones such as today. May Day. But we must be careful not to forget the reason we truly are celebrating.

Traditions can consume the true purpose we memorialize.

For instance, Christmas isn’t about presents, lights and decorated trees, but just ONE present, the birth of Christ our King! And Easter is more than egg hunts and candy overload. It marks the day our humble King, the one birthed as one of us, fulfilled the greatest sacrifice this world has ever seen! By dying for our sins, He paid the price of our freedom! Then He rose from the dead! These truths are all shared in the greatest Book ever written!

Because of His love for you! For me! He generously gave us life for all eternity!

We’ve been MAY‘d for so much more than delicious goodie baskets that come just once a year. We’ve been given a delicacy that is ours every single day! One that doesn’t include just a sweet taste on your mouth for a moment but can satisfy a deeper hunger within that lasts forever!

Heavenly Father, thank You for blessing us with the gift of Your Word. You’ve said it is ‘alive and active’ and I pray and ask that we experience that today! You have created us to crave Your Word! May each day we experience the beauty that blossoms on every page. Thank You for Your goodness and love that never ends! The best gift You’ve given is right at our fingertips, May we accept that today! In Your Holy and Precious Name, Amen.
