Peace Be Still

Peace, Be Still

When I was a young child, I was scared spit-less of storms. When a dark cloud would roll over, I began to panic. Then the rain would fall, the wind began to howl and fear set in.

I was defeated before the storm even hit.

Life produces storms. And the fear of anticipation can paralyze us before it even begins, if we aren’t properly prepared.

Jesus and his disciples were in a boat, when the dark clouds began to roll in, rain began to fall and the wind picked up. The disciples stood in fear.

“He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Peace! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”

Mark 4:39-40

The disciples, even in the presence of Jesus were afraid! Their faith was shaken.

It blows my mind how even in the presence of Jesus, His disciples could doubt. Yet, I, myself have been in the boat, crippled by fear and left doubting. Have you?

His words, “Peace, Be Still” have taken a new meaning in my heart and in my life! As the storms of this life continue and even escalate, I need to remind myself to find peace. I must be still.

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

John 16:33

I can happily share, that I no longer fear the dark clouds, the rain or wind anymore. And not just the literal storms, but this whirlwind of a thing we call life. Time and time again I find myself rocking in the boat. Whether I am crashing in the waves, feet firmly fastened on the ground or holding on for dear life, I will pray that my faith rise up! I will pray that my heart believe! That I hear AND believe His words when He says, “Peace, Be Still.”

“Be Still and Know that I Am God.”

– Psalm 46:10

*CHALLENGE: You may be in a storm right now! And if not now, one may be coming; the clouds may just be rolling in. I urge you, with a sincere heart to trust the voice that speaks, “Peace, Be Still.” Let faith rise up in you! And remember, you do not have to do it alone! God is always with you! Pray and ask Him to calm the storm!

Even if you don’t journal, now may be the best time to begin! Journal your prayers, thoughts and remember to be still and listen.

Precious Father, Your love is overwhelming! Your very presence can calm any storm we face! And Lord, I pray and ask for your peace to overflow in us today! May your calming presence alone cause us to be still Lord and know, without a doubt that You. Are. God! Thank You for your never ending prevision and grace in our lives! With all that I am, I surrender in Your Name, Amen.
