Food for Thought

FOOD for Thought

Anyone else love food? Like so much it would be your #1 love language if it were an option? No judgement here if you say yes!

Because that’s been me! For as long as I can remember! And then I went and married a Food-Lover so we base pretty much everything we do around food. All of our dates are focused around food!

We may have a problem!

Or at least I knew I did when things changed drastically for me this last year! I began battling stomach problems which meant, I needed to change my diet and make lifestyle changes.

It was at that point, I truly realized how much I idolized food. I know that sounds insane but its true! I used to spend majority of the long car ride anywhere I was going with decent food options deciding where I should eat!

You may be wondering why I am rambling on and on about my love for food! And here it is:

I made food an idol.

I allowed food to make me “happy” or fill me up (literally and figuratively) when I felt void.

Food had become a crutch. And I was missing out on some amazing opportunities right before me because I was consumed by an idol!

Yes food is absolutely a necessity to live! But we are commanded in Matthew 4:4,

“Man should not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.

One of the many foods that my body can’t handle is actual BREAD! Ironic? No, necessary! I needed to understand that I can not truly live on bread…or food alone! But instead, on EVERY WORD that comes from the mouth of God!

When you find yourself in a defenseless, dependent state of life and are fulfilling voids with temporary highs or pleasures, whether it’s with the mind, body or spirit, you’re always going to come up short.

There is, however, an answer: seek God’s Word.

“[Jesus said] I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever.”

– John 6:51

And friends, I will tell you, I grew up in a loving Christian home and I KNEW this was what I needed, but it still didn’t click! Reading God’s Word is more than opening the Bible and hoping it’ll absorb! It’s about desire, passion and obedience! You must desire to know and grow closer to the Lord! Pray and ask for a passion instilled in you! And be obedient.

If God is calling you to rid yourself of idols, be obedient! If God is asking you to open His Word, be obedient. If God is moving you for more than you understand, listen carefully and be obedient!

Some may say they can’t “hear” God, but I’ll be absolutely honest with you – If you want to hear Him, you will hear Him! If you ask Him to change you, to show you more, just brace yourself for an incredible journey! Because He will do just that!

This song, so timely and moving! May we use this time in quarantine, where we feel we have NOTHING to do, but instead, allow God to do something amazing through you!

“Clear the Stage” by Jimmy Needham

“Do not turn to idols… I am the Lord your God.”

Leviticus 19:4

Lord God, please forgive us for making idols over you! For each of us, it may look different but the change we must make is the same. Turn to You! You have commanded us ‘do not turn to idols’ and I pray and ask that we turn away from them. And that we SEE these things in our lives taking precedence over You! Lord I pray and ask for desire, obedience and faith in Your plan, not our own! May we ‘Clear the Stage’ and make way for Only You! Thank You Lord for Your Word which is our Living Bread! In Your Mighty and Powerful Name, Amen.
